Good Morning
I hope you all managed to stay warm and dry this weekend as hurricane Joaquin passed us by...
Today's Tuesday Tidbit is something we have all encountered, some people seem to have mental toughness naturally, for the rest of us it is something we have to work on to help get us through the tough times.
Mental strength means that you regulate your emotions, manage your thoughts, and behave in a positive manner, despite your circumstances. Mental toughness techniques can help you to perform consistently. How? Because these techniques all take advantage of the one thing you have 100% control over: effort. In a physical activity environment, where there are many uncontrollable factors, it’s essential for you to focus on aspects of performance you can control.
- You can control how you think about your fears.
- You can control when you pay attention to your vision.
- Take the time to highlight things you did well and things you could do better next time.
- Practice positive self-talk.
- Choose the optimal times in their training to tune in or tune out of the work (i.e., when to choose association and when to opt for dissociation).
Mental strength involves more than just willpower; it requires hard work and commitment. It’s about establishing healthy habits and choosing to devote your time and energy to self-improvement.
Here are 5 things you can do to build mental strength:
- Evaluate your core beliefs.
- Expend your mental energy wisely.
- Replace negative thoughts with productive thoughts.
- Practice tolerating discomfort.
- Reflect on your progress daily.
